You may be subject to a fine if caught camping in one of these areas.

Appalachian Trail at Whiskey Spring, PA to
Pinchot State Park, PA
Mile 0.0
About 2.1 miles north of the Appalachian Trail and the M-DT intersection is the Alec Kennedy Shelter, which is .2 miles east of the AT and sleeps 7.
About 2.5 miles south of the AT/M-DT intersection is Deer Run Camping Resort, 111 Sheet Iron Roof RD, Gardners, PA 17324, 717-486-8168. Hike the AT south for 1.32 miles. Then, turn right onto Oldtown RD and walk .53 miles. Turn left onto Sheet Iron Roof RD and trudge another .56 miles. Campground is on the left.
Mile 6.3
Walmar Manor Campground This campground is about 1.2 miles south of where the MDT crosses US15. Turn right on US15, go about .2 miles, turn left on Franklin Church RD, hike about a mile and the campground will be on the right at 125 Walmar Manor DR, Dillsburg, PA 17019. Their phone number is 717-432-4523. The tent camping area is in the rear of the property between the RV camping and Bermudian Creek. The campsites are very nice. However, after heavy rains the creek is prone to overflowing it's banks.

Kings Campground When you get to Glenwood RD, turn left and walk .91 miles. The campground will be on your right. Their address is 145 Glenwood Road, Dillsburg, PA 17019 and their phone number is 717-460-5119.

Mile 2.8
Gifford Pinchot State Park 2200 Rosstown RD, Lewisberry, PA 17339. Campground is open from the second Saturday in April until the third Sunday in October. Reservations can be made by calling 1-888-PA-PARKS up to 11 months in advance. Walk up registration is also available. The M-DT passes close by the campground. No mail drops accepted and no camping supplies available. However, there is a convenience store with short term supplies within 1 mile of the park. The campground phone number is 717-292-4112.

Wago Club Located at the end of Map 2 at 1095 Wago RD, Mount Wolf, PA 17347, thru hikers on the M-DT can camp on club grounds with permission. Call Mike Clancy at 717-332-7156 or if he is not available, the club itself at 717-266-2806.
On Maps 3-7 DO NOT camp within 500 feet of the Susquehanna River as the river may rise unexpectedly and you may get swept away.

Trinity Church Road South of Wrightsville, PA
As of now, there are no known, established campgrounds or camp sites within 5 miles of the trail. However, there are long range plans to build a trail shelter somewhere between miles 6.7 and 8.0 within a future relocation of the M-DT.

Mile 5.4
Shank's Mare This outfitter allows long distance kayakers along the Susquehanna as well as long distance hikers of the Mason-Dixon Trail to camp on their property. You must call in advance for permission and let them know about when you will be arriving. They also accept mail drops. They are located at 2092 Long Level Road, Wrightsville PA 17368 and their phone number is 717-252-1616.
Mile 13.0
Apollo County Park Minimal impact camping is permitted in Apollo County Park for hikers on the Mason-Dixon Trail only at Apollo Park Shelter and with an approved Special Use Permit. This permit is available for download from the York County, PA Parks and Recreation web site. There is no charge for this permit. Click/Tap Here for an example of how the permit should be filled out. You can either 'snail mail' the filled out permit 14 days prior to when you want to stay at the shelter, drop it off at their office for approval or you can call them and they will fill it out and approve it over the phone. Their preferred method is for applicants to give them a call. The department's phone number is 717-840-7440. Camping is now prohibited anywhere else within the park. The shelter rules are here.

Otter Creek Campground 1101 Furnace Road, Airville PA 17302. Open from April 1 through October 31. Limited camping supplies. Mail drops accepted. Phone: 717-862-3628. The M-DT passes right through the campground.
Otter Creek Campground, PA to PA - MD State Line
Mile 9.9
The Lock 12 Shelter, which was built by Boy Scouts, is on a white blazed side trail (also called the Scout Trail) on the opposite side of of River Road from Lock 12. When the trail turns left to go past Lock 12, keep going straight on the white blazed trail, cross River Road and the shelter will be on the left in about .25 miles.

Mile 14.2
Susquehanna State Park Mailing address: 3318 Rocks Chrome Hill Road, Jarretsville MD 21084. The physical address of the park is: 4122 Wilkinson Road, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. The physical address of the campground is 792 Craigs Corner Road, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. Reservations strongly recommended. Very limited camping supplies. No mail drops accepted. Phone 410-557-7994. Closed in winter. Campground is about a mile from the trail. At mile 14.6, when the trail turns to the left and shares the red blazed Susquehanna Ridge/Greenway Trail, turn right instead, take the red blazed trail for about .15 miles, turn left at red blazed spur trail for about .2 miles, turn right on dark blue blazed Farm Road Trail for about .5 miles. There will be a trail head within the campground between sites 48 and 50 in the Acorn Loop right before the green blazed Deer Creek Trail. If you have reserved a site you can walk out to the Acorn loop, turn left, walk .2 miles, turn left again, walk .1 mile, turn left again and walk .2 miles to the entrance station to check in. Or you can turn left at the Deer Creek Trail and there will be trail heads between sites 59 and 61 in the Acorn Loop and another trail head between sites 4 and 6 within the Beechnut loop.

Craft Haven Campground & Marina. About 2.14 miles south of the intersection of MD7 and Mountain Hill RD. Turn right onto Mountain Hill, walk about 1.8 miles to Carpenters Point RD, turn right and the campground is about .2 miles on the left. Their address/phone is: 900 Carpenters Point RD, Perryville, MD 21903, 410-642-2515. Open Spring thru late Fall, primitive tent sites available, $30.00 a night for 2 adults, $5.00 for each extra person, pay at the gate or at the office, no mail drops accepted, cash only, bath house facilities available.
Mile 13.4
The Campgrounds at Sandy Cove. These 2 campgrounds are about 4 miles south on MD272. Approximately 88 sites, their address is 60 Sandy Cove RD, North East, MD 21901 and their phone number is 800-234-2683. Open May 1 through October 31. Mail drops accepted but you must pick them up at the main office, which is about .3 miles from the campground. Utilizing M-DT Maps 7 or 8, you can turn right onto Irishtown RD as an alternative way back to the trail.

Mile 7.2
Woodlands Camping Resort When you cross the forest service road at mile 7.2, turn right and the campground will be within a half mile of the trail on the right side. Primitive sites are available. Their address is 265 Starkey Lane, Elkton, MD 21921 and their phone numbers are 410-398-4414 or 443-350-0767. Mail drops accepted. This campground is located within Elk Neck State Forest, MD and is open all year long.

As of now, there are no known, established campgrounds or camp sites within 5 miles of the trail. However, we have heard from a reliable source that primative camping may soon be available in White Clay Creek State Park, DE around mile 18.2.
