Map #10 (2016 Edition)

Wrightsville Low Water Route

3

On M-DT Map 10, miles 17.8->18.0 W->E, 0->0.2 E->W. We took the easternmost .2 miles of the M-DT and moved them to Brandywine Museum & Conservancy of Art land. Below are the updated trail descriptions:

WEST TO EAST

17.8 mi Cross the diagonal railroad tracks at Fairville Road and follow blue blazes across the road and into the woods (Warning- These are live tracks!). The blazes on posts turn right, then left numerous times to line the trail up to climb a small to medium size hill. Trail ascends hill.

17.9 mi At the top of the hill, turn left onto an old asphalt driveway. Follow this driveway down hill.

18.0 mi Reach entrance gate at eastern terminus of Mason-Dixon Trail at US 1. The Conservancy plans to install a pedestrian gate here. In the mean time, if the entrance gate is locked you can just climb over it.

Future plans call for a parking lot at the eastern terminus. However, for now, short term parking is available at Chadds Ford Elementary School across the street on non-school days or at the Chadds Ford Museum & Conservancy of Art about a half mile north on US 1. If you plan to do a multi-day hike on the M-DT you can only park at the museum and you must fill out a liability form.

0.0 mi Eastern terminus of the Mason-Dixon Trail is about 500 feet south of the intersection of Fairville RD and US 1 in Chadds Ford, PA. Trail begins at entrance gate. The Conservancy plans to install a pedestrian gate here. In the mean time, if the entrance gate is locked you can just climb over it. Follow the blue blazes. The white blazes are those of the Brandywine Trail, a 37 mile trail extending from the Horse-Shoe Trail above Ludwig's Corner, PA to the north to Brandywine Creek State Park, DE to the south. Ascend on old asphalt driveway up a small to medium sized hill.

0.1 mi At the top of the hill, turn right onto dirt trail. Trail descends and makes numerous left and right turns. Follow the blazes on the posts.

0.2 mi (Note: in deer hunting months of December and January, property owner would prefer that hikers turn right and stay on Fairville RD for next 2 miles.) Cross Fairville RD and diagonal railroad tracks (Warning- These are live tracks!). Bear right, go around entrance gate and up road allowance. At top of hill turn blazes to right, then left.
